Smokey Drive Elementary

Update for Families - March 31, 2020

We, the staff of Smokey Drive Elementary School, want you to know that you and our students are in our thoughts and we hope you enjoyed the video that we sent out.  As you probably know, yesterday Premier McNeil announced that public schools in the province will be closed until at least May 1 and the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development introduced Nova Scotia`s Learning Community Plan.  Last evening you should have received communication from the HRCE about the plan.  Teachers have received more information about this today.  Like you, we are anxious to find a routine in this situation.

We want to thank you for your patience and flexibility.  Over the past few days your teachers have been reaching out to their families to find out how you are doing and if you are set up for remote learning on-line.  Students who do not have access to on-line learning will have other options.  If you have not heard from your student`s teacher, please check the staff directory on the website and reach out; we may not have your most recent email address on file.

Now teachers will need some time to collaborate and to plan according to the new plan.  This is new for all of us but rest assured that the well-being of students and their continued progress is important to all of us.  Over the next few days, teachers will be working to put together a plan for learning to support all students.  Please continue to be patient knowing that we will be communicating with you soon.  Once teacher`s plans are more clearly laid out, we will let you know.

Remember we are on Twitter and love all the pictures and stories that you are sharing with us.  It`s a great way to stay in touch when we aren`t together.  You can reach us via email; all staff emails are on the website staff directory.

In the meantime, please continue to stay safe and healthy at home.
